How should I clean the jewellery?

Over time, dirt and oil can build up on jewellery. To clean, fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of mild soap or dishwashing detergent. Allow your jewellery to soak for several minutes, then use a soft baby toothbrush to gently remove dirt and debris. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth to keep your jewellery looking new.
Take care to avoid household chemicals. Limit contact with perfumes and personal care products, which may affect the delicate material.
A complementary jewellery cleaning cloth is enclosed with every HUARI purchase, so that you can keep your jewellery looking new.

    Is your brass jewellery hypoallergenic?

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. It is nickel and lead free. It is sometimes used in our pendants and accessories gold, or sterling silver plated because of its lightweight nature.

What is gold-plated jewellery and is it hypoallergenic?

Gold-plated jewellery is made through a process of plating a thin layer of gold onto a more affordable base metal such as nickel, brass, stainless steel, silver, or copper. When made with a quality base metal such as stainless steel or silver, gold-plated jewellery is hypoallergenic, but this does not mean the gold plating won't fade. Gold-plated jewellery will tarnish over time if not cared for and is more sensitive to heat, water, and wear over time.
A complementary jewellery cleaning cloth is enclosed with every HUARI purchase, so that you can keep your jewellery looking new.

What is stainless steel and is it hypoallergenic?

Selected items of our collection are made from tarnish resistant stainless steel because of its required shape and chunky nature. They are also made from medical and surgical grade stainless steel, free from nickel and lead.

What is sterling silver and is it hypoallergenic?

Sterling silver is an alloy that contains 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. It is nickel and lead free. Ours is at least 92.5% sterling silver and will carry the relevant 925k stamp on our pieces. It may tarnish over time if not polished. However, because of its purity, once polish, the colour and shine are magnificent.

What is gold filled and is it hypoallergenic?

Wherever possible, for durability and quality, we aim to make most of our jewellery with gold filled materials. Gold-filled jewellery has a layer of solid gold, permanently bonded onto the base metal. It contains more than 100 times more gold than gold plated and gold vermeil jewellery, and it is tarnish-resistant, nickel free, copper free and hypoallergenic.

Gold filled jewellery is considered more durable than gold-plated due to the thicker layer of gold. As long as the piece is well cared for, gold-filled jewellery can last a lifetime.

What is gold vermeil and is it hypoallergenic?

Gold vermeil is a metal that’s coated in a surface layer of gold. To be classified as vermeil, three standards must be met.
    • The mixture of the base metal must contain 92.5% sterling silver or fine 99.9% silver.
    • The thickness of the gold coating must be at least 2.5 microns.
    • The gold purity needs to be at a minimum of 10 karats.
Our gold vermeil jewellery meets all of the above criteria with a minimum of 92.5% sterling silver and a gold purity of at least 14 karat solid gold. It is more durable than gold-plated as long as the piece is well cared for.
Generally, gold vermeil is hypoallergenic and is generally a safer metal for sensitive skin. Our gold vermeil is nickel and lead free.

What is the difference between gold-filled and gold vermeil?

The core difference between gold vermeil and gold filled is the underlying manufacturing process. Gold vermeil is an electroplating process, and gold-filled is a pressure and heat bonding process. Typically, gold-filled costs more than gold vermeil or gold-plating.

What is the difference between antique and vintage jewellery?

At HUARI, we typically curate vintage jewellery for you.

Antique items are clarified as anything of value over 100 years old and vintage is typically clarified as between 50 to 100 years old.

However, we use the term a little looser so that we can showcase beautiful pieces to you that are less than 50 years old. For these items, we do state their estimated era for your reference to support your purchase decisions.

Rest assured, we ask the same questions of our suppliers.
